Sometimes even I look at something and just go "....what???..."
Their live act begins with random screaming by lead singer, Fyl, while the band performs in the background. Then the members grab guns and start tattooing themselves or each other, and the screams get louder and crazier. Fyl sticks syringes into his forehead and arms to add to the madness. The music gets more and more intense until all you hear is the buzzing noise of tattoo guns, amplified by the amps they are plugged in to. At this point, everyone seems to be in some sort of trance. There is nothing commercial about this unique performance.
Welcome to the world of Tat2noiseact from Belgium. They've been around since 2005 but are still relatively unknown, probably because they aren't trying to get well known. In the beginning, it was all a bit of a joke, their first performance was for one night only which took place behind one of the windows in Brussels Red Light District.
Their music has changed significantly over time, their sound is no longer pure noise, but a bit of a mishmash of sounds. "Singing and getting inked is a great combination," Fyl explained to VICE. "You don't notice the pain. I actually think I am a better vocalist when I am being tattooed." And what about the tattoos being created during the performance? " It doesn’t matter how they will look like, the point is to enjoy the whole act and connect sound, energy and pain"
In case you are worried about the possibilities of contracting something nasty at one of their live performances with all the blood and beer and sticky carpets, fear not,
band member Kostek (the one in the luchador mask) is an actual tattoo artist. Thanks to his training as an artist the band still follows every sanitary requirement that you would expect during their performances. So, while the show might get rowdy and a bit bloody, no one is walking away from a Tat2NoisAct show with anything that they didn't arrive with.
